There You Are addresses the notion of how individuals articulate and activate spaces both physically and socially. Visitors must negotiate a series of installed dividers and screens in order to discover and view a number of video projections. These feature subjects enacting specific relationships with the spaces they traverse and inhabit.

A journey from here to there always involves a set of negotiations and decisions. This is further complicated by the presence of others, whether moving or static. One needs to decide when to make eye contact and when to look away, decide whether a gap is wide enough to slip through or to quickly work out how to avoid a clash. On entering a space one subconsciously agrees to abide by the social rules that are acceptable in that space. The arrangement of divisions and projections in this exhibition forms a spatial presence falling outside the prevailing norms of the traditional gallery. Curiosity and the desire to see what is round the corner or over the wall may force one to adopt uncomfortable positions in relation to the surroundings and others within the space. Notions of psychological, personal and physical space collide and overlap. Wherever you go, there you are.

This exhibition is an invitation for viewers to become ‘projections’ and to activate the work and the space using their own set of conventions and decisions.
